By putting the spotlight on women at the pinnacle of the industry, and also the up-and-coming next generation of leaders, we provide examples of achievement, creativity, and courage.

WoWE offers two annual awards:
- Woman of the Year - Awarded to a woman who stands out for her leadership, inspiration, and significant contributions to the expansion and improvement of the wind industry. Whether she is the leader of a company or organization, or works behind-the-scenes, she is making wind energy development happen at the highest level.
- Rising Star - Honors a woman relatively new to wind energy who is already making significant professional contributions. Rising Star nominees show unusual talent, dedication, and innovation in their wind industry work.

WoWE's 2009 Honorees:
2009 WoWE Woman of the Year Karen Conover. Ms. Conover has over two decades of experience in wind technology and other renewable energy applications and has conducted wind energy work throughout the U.S. and in over twenty countries. She co-founded Global Energy Concepts, a company that grew from a handful of staff in 1994 to 100 employees and two offices, acquired in 2008 by DNV. She now serves DNV Global Energy Concepts as Director of Wind Business and Strategy Development. An active board member for AWEA since 1995, she was the first woman and also the youngest person appointed to serve in this capacity.
2009 WoWE Rising Star Sarah Wright. Ms. Wright is founder of Utah Clean Energy (UTC). She wins the award for her accomplishments in promoting wind, renewable energy and efficiency within the state of Utah. In addition to her role as UTC's executive director, Sarah serves on Governor Huntsman's Energy Advisory Council and the Blue Ribbon Advisory Council on Climate Change. Sarah holds a B.A. in Geology from Bradley University, and an M.S. in Public Health from the University of Utah.
